Font - Professor accused me of using AI when I know for a fact I didn't so right now I am taking a summer class. For context, the class is philosophy, and we had to write a discussion post which was basically to show that we retained the chapter which was about the basic principles of logic. The professor gave me a 0 and said I used AI. At first, I thought maybe I forgot to cite a source or something, and it detected plagiarism because maybe I maybe failed to paraphrase correctly. however,

Font - when I pulled up the report, the only sentence that was highlighted in red was the opening hook, which I know I wrote straight from my head. I didn't even use any sources to open up my discussion post. In fact, the opening statement was very general, and short opening statement that would only be a funnel into the rest of the discussion post. I've never used an AI program before,

Font - and so I know for a fact I didn't use it at all. I reached out to the professor two days ago, but they never responded. what do you think I should do about this? I even offered to provide the revision history on the original Google document I wrote it on.

Font - KRAKO The FamousHesham · 1 day ago I agree. The professor seems to have just copied the first sentence and based their conclusion on that, which (if true).. kind.. of.. makes.. them.. an.. idiot?

Font - You can't conclude, with any degree of confidence, whether a piece of text was written by AI based on 10-15 generic words. Heck. I've had pieces of original writing I've authored in 2018 return a "30% Written By AI" when I ran them through AI detection software.

Font - I hope the professor isn't involved in any research because that's such a rookie mistake.

Font - springreturning. 1 day ago Are there office hours (even if virtual)? Try stopping by those before escalating. Or even show up a few minutes early to class to ask if the teacher can stay after class to talk. If they refuse, then you can escalate.

Font - MrMSprinkle 1 day ago . Instructors who are completely ignorant about how AI generation programs work are getting bombarded with all of this hype about how it's completely changing student responses. Some of the hype is justified, because they're also getting bombarded with a ton of AI-generated writing thanks to a large amount of students who are actually cheating.

Font - Because it's scary and overwhelming, a lot of the instructors are blindly using AI checkers (which they are equally ignorant about) that are unreliable and return high false positive rates.

Font - It's important for an instructor to read up on the reliability of these AI checking apps, and then to use them as they would a moderate match rating on Turnitin--to use it as a starting point to investigate plagiarism rather than as an instant and infallible check for it.

Font - I agree with u/PhDapper that you should send one polite follow up email. If you don't receive a response within a week, then you should escalate to the chair.
