Something tells me this won't be the last time this happens. In this day and age, we are seeing more and more cases in which folks have used AI to generate content, whether it's for school, company announcements, or even legal defense (yikes!). In many of these situations, people are knowingly relying on AI to do work for them, rather than as an aid or for inspiration. But what about those instances in which people are accused of relying on AI when, in fact, they weren't?
This thread was posted to Reddit's r/college subreddit, and we're going to take the student's word for it when they claim that they did not use AI to write the opening sentence of their essay. Instead, it just sounds like a subpar, unoriginal sentence. Professors need to remember that these kinds of essays are still very much a thing. Not everything unoriginal is necessarily plagiarized or the work of a robot. It turns out that humans are still very much capable of producing subpar, unoriginal work on their own.
